How to Eliminate Insects from Your Garden Naturally

Mosquitoes and other flying insects can be very annoying and prevent you from enjoying your green space in complete tranquility, especially if used for playing with children or your four-legged friends.

In this article we will see how to avoid this problem with natural products that do not affect the health of plants , humans and animals.

PYRETHRUM

Pyrethrum is a natural substance extracted from a flower very similar to the daisy (Chrysanthemum Cinerariaefolium) and is effective in containing not only mosquitoes but all flying and crawling insects that are annoying and harmful to our plants.

Caution: If you want to use products of natural origin, always make sure they are based on Pyrethrins and not Pyrethroid substances ( synthetic products that can be harmful to humans and the ecosystem).

Pyrethrum leaves no residue because it is photosensitive ( it loses its effect when exposed to light).

Precisely for this reason it is recommended to carry out the treatment in the late afternoon/evening, avoiding the central hours of the day so that it can develop its effect during the night.

This way you can enjoy the garden the following morning in complete tranquility.

HOW TO USE IT:

To treat with a product based on pure Pyrethrins (like this one ) simply dilute it in water in the ratio indicated on the package and administer it with a spray pump .

Spray the product on any area: hedges, lawns, walls, plants, etc., possibly in the late afternoon/evening.

The effect is immediate and, being natural, you can safely enjoy the garden about an hour after the treatment.

Caution: Pyrethrum is non-selective , so it also affects bees. Make sure you're not near a flowering area to avoid compromising pollination . In these areas, a less invasive product like neem oil is recommended to eliminate insects.

DURATION OF TREATMENT:

This product is very effective if mosquitoes or other insects are already present in our green space.

It's therefore useful for combating and having an immediate effect, but it doesn't control their proliferation . Consequently, after about 15-20 days, new , unwanted insects may emerge from the larvae (especially in the presence of stagnant water). The treatment can therefore be repeated or (after the first administration) preventative measures can be taken.

HOW TO PREVENT:

To prevent the infestation of mosquitoes and other insects and thus take preventive action, you can use natural products based on Bacillus Thuringiensis , which directly target the larvae. Again, this product should be diluted in water and sprayed throughout the garden.

In some difficult-to-treat areas, such as plant saucers, you can add pyrethrum powder , which acts as a preventative against the formation of larvae and repels all crawling insects that can be harmful to our potted plants . This ready-to-use granular product is obtained by crushing pyrethrum flowers and is effective for three weeks.

It's also very useful for combating ants, especially when seeding lawns. It can be mixed with seeds to create new lawns or added directly to the anthill.

CLOSED PLACES:

The insect problem isn't limited to your own green space; they can also be a nuisance indoors , especially in work environments such as bars, bakeries, pastry shops, hairdressers, and so on.

To overcome this problem, we always recommend using a product based on pure Pyrethrins but in this case in spray format (like this one ).

Combined with the automatic dispenser , it allows you to keep away all flying insects without the need for humans.

Simply insert the canister into the appropriate diffuser (the spraying frequency can be adjusted and you can choose whether to spray 24 hours a day or night) and fix it to the wall at a height of at least 180 cm to avoid direct contact with the eyes.

It is a medical surgical device authorized by the Italian Ministry of Health.
